I woke from a dream of something like a TV show.

The elevator pitch would go something like this - "He's a werewolf. She's a witch. They're married and they fight evil." :)
Who the f*ck is "Towanna" and why is he or she sending me texts asking for money?

I hope Towanna gets that $9, but it won't be from me.
Leonard Nimoy passed away yesterday.

The original Star Trek is a fandom that my father and I shared since I was very young. I remember watching the old episodes on TV with him, and him taking my sister and me to see the films. This close to the anniversary of Dad's death, the loss of an actor I admired, and whose iconic character I often empathized with in my middle- and high-school years as a brainy geek, seems especially poignant.

Rest well, Mr. Nimoy. You shall be missed.
I used to be over at Livejournal; I may be moving here instead.

W20!

So, I bought a copy of Werewolf The Apocalypse 20th Anniversary edition; yesterday, it arrived.

I am most impressed with what the folks at Onyx Path have done. It makes me want to play WtA again.

Maybe I'll keep the idea for a WtA 20 game in the back of my brain. :)
This is a small local con, but there is SO much love there for gaming of all kinds. Please check it out and consider supporting it.

Guess who's going to see Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Rebellion on the big screen next Saturday (December 14)?

I'm pretty amazed that there's actually a showing of it here (we're kinda in the boonies, as far as stuff like that goes); I was figuring I'd have to go to Toronto or something like that.

*insert Madoka fangirl squeeing here*
This is really only relevant to the folks nearby, or those farther away who might still have fond memories....

Apparently, UB SARPA is no longer going to be holding Open Gaming in Baldy Hall as of the Spring 2014 semester at UB. The reason cited is lack of interest among the university undergrads, who were actually the people the event was designed for; the alumni and local gamers were really just ancillary members.

I have many fond memories associated with Open Gaming; it's where I played and GMed my first games, and where I met a number of friends, many of whom I'm still close to today.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by this turn of events, but there's not much of a choice. We'll simply have to find another place to game.

Otakon 20

...was loads of fun!

I attended some cool panels (the Kamen Rider and "Artist Alley 101" ones was really great), picked up some neat stuff in the Dealer Room and Artist Alley, and just generally enjoyed three days of Japanese pop culture goodness.

This year I cosplayed Dekayellow of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, and received many compliments. I also got the chance to participate in a Super Sentai/Power Rangers photoshoot, which was a lot of fun, despite the heat (we had so many people they moved us out of the BCC to the Inner Harbor). Our shoot attracted a number of kids who wanted their pictures taken with us; that was cute.

Speaking of sentai, I also managed to get Tomokazu Seki's autograph on our copy of the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger character book (he's the voice of all their equipment). C and I also got to see his Q&A, which was very entertaining.

All in all, a very fun con!
Panel on Japanese relationships submitted and accepted for ToraCon 2013. I'm committed now! :)

Now I need to finish making clips....
Since I've pretty much got nothing as far as one-shot games go, and the con is in April, I'm thinking about just going to UBCon as an artisan this year.

I figure that I can always wait, and try to come up with a bang-up event for Queen City Conquest II, come August.

Anyone planning to attend either (or both) care to opine?
The spammers are busy again, it seems. I've had to go and delete spam comments from a bunch of old RP character journals.

*sighs*
Earlier this year, I started making jewelry. Over the past months, I've gotten pretty good at it.

On the advice of [livejournal.com profile] tamminnanny, I've decided to take the plunge and sign up for the Artist Alley for UBCon 24 next spring.

I'm currently putting together inventory; hopefully I'll be able to make at least a little bit of money off my new hobby.

If you happen to be attending UBCon 24, do stop by!

(For the gamers on my F-list, I'll be running at least one RPG at the con, too, so don't worry on that score. :)
This may be a long shot, but I figured it's worth a try....

I have a Homura Akemi costume that I bought online, but it turned out not to fit me. I'd like to sell it (because it's not doing me any good just sitting around), preferably where I can recoup at least some of the money I paid for it.

So, for the cosplay folks on my F-list - any ideas? I've looked at EBay, but their terms of service confused the heck out of me; any other ideas?
Belated birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] im_a_woman!

Hope you enjoyed your special day!

White Wolf is doing a Kickstarter for a Deluxe version of the upcoming Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition. In just twelve hours, they hit their $85,000 goal. With 29 days to go, they're now working on their stretch goals ($1500 to the first one).

It takes a bit of cash to get a hard copy of the book, but for lower amounts, you can get a PDF and your name (or a character's name) in the book as a supporter (at this writing, $35.00 gets you the PDF and your name in the book - guess what I just did? :).

If you're a fan of W:tA, or just curious as to what they're offering, take a look.

I had a fantastic time! I got to see some old friends, run some games, and try out some new ones. It's terrific to have a gaming-focused con to attend again.

My games had some really great players in them this con - they worked together and were pleasant both in and out of character. Gaming with those folks was a lot of fun; [livejournal.com profile] lostsatyr and I stayed up talking about the fun we'd had after we got home. :)

I got to try out Faery's Tale for the first time (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tamminnanny), and had a great time; his Airship Pirates game was great as always.

Having people pay ahead for admission and event tickets was a very good idea; it gives people more of an incentive to show up, and also keeps attendees from overbooking themselves.

I also really like the "con bucks" GM compensation plan (for every player a GM had, they got a token worth one dollar to spend at the vendor tables); I wonder if UBCon could do the same sort of thing?

All in all, a great con! I hope it's the first of many!
Queen City Conquest is the 21-23.

This is their first year; hopefully it'll be the first of many, because we need another gaming con here in WNY (MiniCon and UBCon have become increasingly weighted toward anime programming in the past few years, and while I like anime as much as the next otaku, I've missed having a gaming-focused con in these parts).

I've got nearly all the pregens tucked into their envelopes, and just have to put the finishing touches on the adventure outline for one of the two games. I've also got enough tickets for the games I want to play in.

Here's hoping for a good con!
