Good news: I may have a new player for my tabletop game.

Bad news: He apparently has absolutely no idea of what he wants to do with his character. All of my questions to him ("What's your character doing in [game city]?" "What sort of character are you playing?" "What does your character look like?", etc.) were met with a blank look and the equivalent of, "I dunno."

I honestly had no idea of how to integrate his character into the group (it's a Changeling game set in Philadelphia, if that helps), until one of the other players decided that her character could invite his to the party she's throwing next session.

Hopefully he'll show up for next session with the character a little more firmly developed...I can hope, right? :)

Sometimes it's helpful to have a standard list of 'inspiration questions' including things like 'who was his favorite teacher in school, and why?', 'what music does he like?', 'what's a secret he's never told anyone...?' to give a player during character generation.

Is he a new gamer, or at least new to Changeling?

Never played Changeling before, though he has played Vampire, apparently.

He kept asking me what the "goal" of Changeling was - I told him it was to inspire mortals, and try to keep creativity in the world (or something like that). I got a blank look.

His character is a Nocker drag racer who's majoring in mechanical engineering in Pittsburgh. The game takes place in Philadelphia. He says the character could commute - I'm not sure, but isn't Pittsburgh on the other end of PA from Philly?

It's about a 5 and a half hour drive one way. They're about 300 miles apart.

In other words, yes. the two cities are on opposite sides of the state.

That's not too far away if one of his nooker-buddies has a two-way-power-pocket-portal-passage from one city to the other. (The flaw is that it only works from one place to the other. It was supposed to be to any freehold.)
