I still like the "old" WoD. At least some parts of it.

That being said....

It has 10+ years of stereotypes that come with it. You know, "All Toreador are worthless poseurs," "All Get of Fenris are big furry tacnukes," "All Hermetics are nothing but Latin-droning has-beens."

I think some of the appeal of playing/running the nWoD for me would be a chance to get away from all the pigeonholing.

Not to mention that there's enough that *hasn't* been identified in the nWoD to prevent people from going, "Oh, it's a Lasombra....I've seen *those* before." Or worse, to get the, "But *that's* not the way demons are supposed to be! In Demon: The Fallen...." :p

And don't even get me *started* about the people who decide to bring stuff into the game after the fact willy-nilly, just because they've read a new supplement. "Oh, didn't I mention that my character's second cousin once removed went to the Beast Courts once? That means I know all about the hengeyokai, right?" *headdesks*

The nWoD is a whole new ballgame. The playing field has been leveled, if you will. And that's kind of nice if you want to hit the players with some surprises once in a while.

And I hope I'm making sense....

Also, the new WoD is so much better than the old one, in leaps and bounds, in almost every way. Game mechanics, everything. Not only that, but it's all designed to go together regardless. No more endless tweaking, and broken shit like Changelings and Werewolves together. I enjoy the new outlook on Werewolves so much that it's now my favourite game. So well done.

I really like Mage: The Awakening. I think it just blows Ascension out of the water. You want to see "broken shit?" Try two mages with different paradigms together (at least in my experience). In Awakening, though, everyone can work magic together, no problem.

And I'm really looking forward to Changeling: The Lost. My gods, does that look well-done.

Oh my GOD yes. The longest running Mage game I was in kept "paradigms" for like, 5 seconds. At the end of it, no one had them anymore, and not because they were arete 10.

I agree. I loved reading the fiction pieces in the "Setting" chapter of the core rulebook. At no time could I say "Oh, well this is *obviously* a vampire of such and such clan." The one time I thought it was a vampire I couldn't even be sure. I love the "every mystery brings out more mysteries" theme too, it won't get clogged with dogma like the oWoD.
