I had a good time at UBCon 22, despite a few hiccups here and there.
On Friday,
lostsatyr and I had planned to go out to dinner and then go to the con together, but he got a flat tire coming home after picking up his ticket. After some frantic phone calls, I got a ride to the con from my mom, just in time to squeak in and prep for my event.
My Buffy event went pretty well, despite the presence of an obnoxious player.
ramius_rathorne, you may remember him from one of my CJ Carella's WitchCraft con games a number of years ago - I believe you described the way he was playing his character in that game as a "walking gonad." Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have improved any over the intervening years - he started out expressing disappointment that there were no evil characters available to play, then spent the game being nit-picky about "how things really are" when it would have a negative impact on the other PCs, but he was curiously silent about how things "should" have been where his own character was concerned. To top it off, he started bitching to me at the end of the game about how he "hated" another one of the players (the one who won the prize, interestingly enough). "I don't mean to be obnoxious, but...." I told him not to complain to me. :)
On Saturday, I had a grand time, especially since
lostsatyr and I got to spend time with
jesshartley.
ramius_rathorne, she was very happy and touched to receive the M&Ms you sent for her.
lostsatyr and I took a cruise around the dealers' room, where we discovered one of our all-time favorite vendors,
nekojindesigns! We bought a lot of very pretty stuff featuring their adorable characters, and they also seemed thrilled by my desire to cosplay as one of their original characters!
We went out for some wonderful conversation and delicious Indian food for dinner with
jesshartley, then came back so
jesshartley could do a panel and
lostsatyr and I could play in
tamminanny's World War One-era Changeling: The Lost Game. I had a blast playing a Belgian partisan Gristlegrinder - much fun all round. :)
Sunday was my Chez Geek game. As it was at 8 AM (and I'd been up 'til after midnight following the aforementioned Lost game), I wasn't too coherent, so I let the players and the hubby play while I watched. One of the players was nice enough to bring donuts and the like, as well as beverages, to share, so that was very cool.
Afterwards, we went back to the dealers room and artists alley for some more shopping and browsing, until it was time to meet
jesshartley for supper (Thai food this time). We had a lovely dinner and conversation, then said our goodbyes to
jesshartley and left the magical land of UBCon for another year. :)
